Hurricane Harvey: Katy ISD Opens Shelters At 2 Area High Schools
Katy ISD will provide a place to stay and meals for those affected by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

KATY, TX — Officials in Katy ISD opened shelters on the south and north side of the district to serve families and individuals and families impacted by Tropical Storm Harvey.
Morton Ranch High School and Cinco Ranch High School opened at 7:30 a.m. — offering shelter, and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to those in need. (Want to get daily updates about Hurricane Harvey and other events going on in your area? Sign up for the free Sugar Land Patch morning newsletter.)
While families are encouraged to remain vigilant and take precautions as hazardous conditions evolve, community members who are able and would like to donate blankets, pillows or towels, may do so by dropping items off at either high school.

These items will be accepted on site for those taking shelter at MRHS and CRHS beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The District is providing these two locations as a resource for families who live in areas threatened by flooding.

Because the District will be closed for the week, Katy ISD will have access to a surplus of food supplies that it will be making available to community members seeking shelter at MRHS and CRHS throughout the week.
Staff will also be on hand to serve meals and assist families at these locations.
While Katy ISD is working to serve those in need, they will have a mess of their own to clean up.

The Katy ISD board room was among area facilities that flooded, and may flood again when Harvey takes another swipe at the Gulf Coast.
Hurricane Harvey came ashore in Rockport as a Category 4 hurricane on Friday, and bombarded the Gulf Coast for three days.
Harvey has made its way off shore and is predicted to make landfall again near the Houston/Galveston area some Tuesday.
All parents, staff and community members should continue to monitor local media and the Katy ISD website for updates on school closings and campus shelters, event cancellations or changes in the forecast.
Katy ISD schools will be closed through Sept. 1.
