Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. Katy ISD is considering a library policy change that would require parents to give the go-ahead before their children can check out books. Other items on the policy change agenda include rectifying the current practice of removing books that are currently up for review from the library and removing books from the library that include the poorly defined term "pervasive vulgarity." Newly elected Katy ISD board member Victor Perez said, "This is about a war on children to sexualize our children at an early age and glamorize transgenderism." Some books currently up for the chopping block include "Looking for Alaska" and "Flamer" which both include sexual content amidst coming-of-age stories. (Houston Chronicle)
  2. Austin-favorite Cabo Bob's opened up its second Houston location. Cabo Bob's differentiates itself from the rest of the burrito crowd by allowing for a greater selection of burrito contents and sourcing them from high-quality ingredients. For example, where Chiptole has two rice options, Cabo Bob's presents five. Founder Don Brinkman has said, "My philosophy is I eat the food every day." The newest location opened near Willowbrook Mall at 7103 Cutten Road. (CultureMap Houston)
  3. Carnivorous dinosaur tracks from 113 million years ago were found in Dinosaur Valley State Park thanks to extreme drought conditions. The tracks were buried at the bottom of a shallow river that's normally obscured by silt and dirt. As its name suggests, the Park is dotted with other dinosaur tracks and trails that run throughout its grounds. It's likely that the park used to be a popular hunting ground millions of years ago due to the frequency of both sauropod, four-legged herbivores, and theropod, two-legged carnivore, tracks. That's at least one good thing that has come from one of the hottest Texas summers on record. (Patch)
  4. Some of the best Vietnamese food in the country can be found right here in Houston thanks to the bayou city having the third largest Vietnamese population in the U.S. Steaming hot bowls of pho, crunchy banh mi sandwiches, and even Viet-Cajun fusion food are just a handful of the stellar offerings you can find at local Vietnamese restaurants. Popular names include Mai's, Huynh (BYOB!), Kau Ba, Dinette, Dakao, and Crawfish & Noodles. Don't miss out on some of the best international food in the country and take advantage of visiting one of these restaurants. Oh, and good luck going easy on the hoisin sauce. (Chron)
  5. A chase suspect who allegedly died in police custody has led to the HPD releasing body cam footage to prove its innocence in the man's fate. Police chased a man in a red Dodge pickup until he crashed into an SUV. Then, he fled on foot. Eventually, a K9 officer found the suspect lying down in the backyard of a nearby home. The man was unresponsive, and when police turned him over it was discovered that he was not breathing and had no pulse. The man's cause of death is yet to have been released. (KPRC Click2Houston)
