Donald Trump Houston Rally: Livestream And Live Coverage

President Donald Trump is in Houston to drum up support for Sen. Ted Cruz and other Republicans as the midterm elections draw near.

HOUSTON, TX — President Donald Trump is in Houston Monday to rally support for Sen. Ted Cruz as he faces off against Rep. Beto O'Rourke in the upcoming midterm elections. Trump moved the rally from NRG Arena to Toyota Center to Thursday, campaign manager Brad Parscale announced on Twitter.

Parscale described demand for tickets as "HUGE and unprecedented as he announced the venue change. But here's the thing: The Toyota Center also isn't the largest Texas stadium Trump vowed to find to host the Cruz ally. While it's true the Toyota Center can hold roughly twice as many people as the NRG Arena, it's only a difference between 10,000 to about 19,000 people. Curiously, NRG Arena operators claim the place could fill up to 71,000 people but they bill the place as ideal for smaller gatherings of about 10,000 people.

The upshot: The Toyota Center is not the biggest stadium in Texas. Not by a very, very long shot. Stated another way: The upgraded Houston venue for the Cruz celebration has a maximum occupancy that's nearly 93,000 less than the true biggest stadium in Texas, Kyle Field at the Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

The Toyota Center can't even hold a candle to the state's second-biggest stadium — the Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin that's home to the Texas Longhorns — capable of housing more than 100,000 screaming spectators at maximum capacity. That's more than 92,000 more people than can be packed into the Toyota Center and its paltry 19,000 maximum capacity.

Trump's rally is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are required for entry. All tickets requested for the previous venue, NRG, will be honored at the new venue, Toyota Center, Trump's website stated.

Cruz still leads O'Rourke in the polls by four to seven points as of Monday morning, according to FiveThirtyEight.
