Local Company Buys School Supplies For Klein ISD Students

KLEIN, TX — Imagine starting school without school supplies because food, rent, and utilities were a much larger priority.

Imagine sitting in class and watching all of your friends and classmates open their new school supply packets. Now, imagine having a complete stranger that you will never meet, donate money so that you can also have a packet of new school supplies on the first day of school, just like everyone else.

For the eighth consecutive year, ICI Construction has donated $10,000 to help purchase school supplies for students in need in Klein ISD. ICI set aside $2,500 of the donation to also buy backpacks.

“My wife, Kristi, taught at the elementary level for 20 years and during that time she had less fortunate students for which we were able to buy extra supplies to make sure they had a chance,” said ICI President Bart Cobb. “ICI feels it is important to give school supplies to the students who are in a financially challenging situation because the student cannot control their financial position, and yet we feel that they should have the same tools to succeed in getting a solid education as everyone else,” he added.

This year’s donation allows for the purchase of 854 customized kits. Eleven elementary, five intermediate, and two high schools are set to receive supplies thanks to ICI Construction's donation. These kits included items such as paper, notebooks, folders, glue, construction paper, pencils, pens, scissors, markers, and more. Each kit was customized to fit the need at a particular grade level.

“Klein ISD is extremely fortunate to have many community and business partners who wish to make a difference in the lives of our students,” said Klein ISD Community Relations and Education Foundation Director, Cindy Doyle. “For the eighth year, the Cobb brothers of ICI Construction will impact the lives of our students who will begin the school year with new school supplies, just like everyone else.”
