Motorcycle Dad Accused Of Riding With Toddler Is Arrested On Outstanding Warrants

CLEVELAND, TX — A man who was allegedly seen riding on a motorcycle on Sunday with a toddler straddling the gas tank in front of him, was arrested on an outstanding warrant on Tuesday.

Anthony Welsh, 31, was arrested by Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies on an outstanding traffic warrant out of Deer Park, after a photograph of him with his son sitting in front of him on his motorcycle began making the rounds on social media sites, according to media reports. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received a number of complaints about the photo after it had been shared numerous times on Facebook, and were looking into the possibility of filing charges against Welsh as a result, KPRC reported.

The photo showed Welsh with his child on front of what WKRG described as a crotch rocket, as he waited to pull into traffic from a parking lot.

In Texas, it is illegal for a child under the age of 5-years old to be on a motorcycle.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Ken Defoor told KHOU that he’s heard from a lot of people who want Welsh prosecuted for putting his child in danger.

“It’s a very stupid thing to do, pure and simple,” Defoor said.

It's possible that Welsh could face child endangerment charges, based on the photograph, officials said.
