Man Charged In Elgin Street Assault

Suspect Arrested, Charged in Assault at 3509 Elgin Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the assault of a man at 3509 Elgin Street about 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday (November 6).

The suspect, Ka Darian Smith (b/m, 21), is charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in the 179th State District Court. He is accused in the assault of Thaddeus Lewis, 60, who was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective C. Castellani reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at an apartment building at the above address and found Mr. Lewis had suffered injuries to his upper body and head. Paramedics transported him to the hospital. As officers conducted a preliminary investigation, a male identified as suspect Smith returned to the scene and was detained.

The investigation determined Lewis had been assaulted by Smith. Smith admitted to his role in the assault and he was subsequently charged.
