El Campo Man Is Killed In Brazoria Oilfield Accident

El Campo man is crushed to death when heavy pulley falls on him; officials used heavy crane to lift pulley off worker

ALVIN, TX -- A man was killed in an oilfield accident Tuesday when he was crushed by a falling piece of heavy equipment.

The accident happened t about 8:30 a.m. at Denbury Resources near County Road 129 in Brazoria County.

Investigators with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said a snatch block, which resembles a pulley with a large hook and weighs several thousand pounds, fell and crushed the employee.

Ingestigators identified the oilfield employee as Antonio Perez, 43, who was from El Campo.

Officials said Perez was performing well service on an oilrig when the 3,000 snatch block fell on him.

A heavy crane had to be brought to the site to remove the snatch block, officials said.

The incident is under investigation
