Man Killed While Protecting His Family
Man who was trying to unclog a drain at mother-in-laws home, shot and killed in front of his wife

HOUSTON, TX -- A 38-year old man was shot to death Sunday afternoon while trying to protect his family from a gunman.
Witnesses told police that Robert Bermudez was shot once in the head as he and his wife were trying to remove a man who’d come to his mother-in-laws home with a gun.
Bermudez was helping to unclog a pipe at his mother-in-laws home in the 7000 block of Bintliff Drive on Sunday afternoon, and a man who'd been invited to the home arrived a short time later.

Witnesses said when the man pulled out the gun, Roberto Bermudez and his wife, Rosie, tried to physically remove the man, who then began shooting.
"[Bermudez] and his wife were both grabbing [the shooter]. It could have been her, it could have been him. The last shot she heard was the one that hit my uncle," nephew Bryan Bermudez said.
Bermudez was shot once in the forehead, and died at the scene
KPRC2 reported that immediately after the shooting, several family members tackled the shooter and held him until police arrived.
"They chased him out, tackled him and subdued him until Houston police got to the scene. The suspect was transported to the hospital with minor injuries," Houston Police Homicide Investigator Steve Murdock said.
The murder suspect is in police custody and is expected to be charged with one count of murder Monday morning.
