Man Posing As Roofer Steals 93-Year Old Houston Woman's Family Heirlooms

Victim said she just wants the cameo returned that her late husband had made for her, no questions asked.

HOUSTON, TX -- A 93-year old woman thought a young man was at her home the other day to repair her roof, instead, the man stole items from her home, including an heirloom she’d had since her late husband returned home from World War II.

For nearly 70 years, Jeanne prized a beautiful cameo her late husband Joseph said looked just like her, but in the span of mere minutes, the cameo was gone. (Sign up for Patch’s daily newsletter for your neighborhood.)

The woman said that over the weekend, a man representing a roofing company that had just recently replaced her roof, came to her southwest Houston home and said he needed to check things out.

Jeanne said the man distracted her and was able to steal a silver chest containing valuables, including the cameo.

Jeanne said the man told her she’d overpaid for the initial job and asked if she had change for a $100 bill, and offered to look in her purse, which alarmed her.

She said she asked to see his identification, and he disappeared.

The missing chest contain sterling silver items, and family heirlooms passed down to her from her mother and great-grandmother.

The prized cameo was in a separate area inside her closet, she said.

The man is described as white or Hispanic, and just under 6-feet tall with a medium build, with a salt and pepper beard, driving a newer model silver Ford pickup with no tags.
