🌱 Neo Sushi + Centerpoint Solar + Rude Dudes
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Houston.

Wake up, Space City! It's me, Chris, your humble servant of the Houston Daily — coming right back at you with the plug on what's happening. Today, we'll look at:
- The hottest Houston omakase.
- Solar complications.
- Houston may be less friendly than you think.
First, today's weather:
Couple of thunderstorms. High: 92 Low: 77.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Houston Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Houston:
- Montrose sushi dining experience Neo is breathing life into the omakase business. In Japanese, "omakase" refers to a multiple course meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef. While you might expect that a dinner with a $260 price tag and fully booked reservations would allow you to at least select what you're eating, you would be wrong. Owners and chefs Paolo Justo, Jeremy Truong, and Luis Mercado are all under the age of 30 and came up with the idea amid the pandemic as they struggled for work. Now, they're operating one of the most in-demand dining spots in the city. Chef Truong said, "We're trying to create an experience you can't find anywhere else in Houston. It should be a place where everyone feels comfortable and wants to come back." Not to speak too soon, but it looks like they might just be past trying. (Houston Chronicle)
- While the Texas national image of cowboys riding their horses to work might not be entirely true, you can pony up for fun at these nearby stables. Located 15 miles north of Houston, Cypress Trails Equestrian Center offers trail-riding on "the nation's longest connected, urban forested corridor." Just southwest of Houston, Sienna Stables provides public horse shows as well as training for ages 3 and up. Meanwhile, Vantage Point Farm in Tomball repurposes rescue horses for riding camp training. When we're talking about horse riding, meeting the stereotype is actually a good thing. (Chron)
- Houston homeowners going solar are facing issues getting their solar panels approved for usage by Centerpoint Energy. Data from the Solar Energy Industries Association shows that Texas is the second fastest growing solar market just behind California. Consequently, Centerpoint has a massive backlog of solar panel approval requests from residents across the city. Chris Bourque and his wife Zury are among residents struggling with the issue. They paid $40,000 for their solar panels two months ago and still remain unable to use them. All things considered, Bourque believes it may be another three months before they finally come online. - A new study from tutoring service Preply rated Houston as the 10th rudest city in the nation. Houston was the only city in Texas to make the top 10 rudest. The study surveyed over 1,500 residents from each United States city who had lived in their respective homes for at least one year. Typically, urban environments are considered much ruder than rural ones. Other large cities including Los Angeles and New York took spots ahead of Houston. Meanwhile, Austin was found to be the most polite city in the nation with Fort Worth taking third most polite. If it weren't for Houston drivers, maybe we would have fared a bit better. - Well-known retailer Bed, Bath, & Beyond is slated to close 150 stores and layoff 20 percent of their workforce amid company turmoil. Over the past three years, the home goods store has sought to push its own name brand items as per instruction of former CEO Mark Tritton. However, Tritton left the company in June due to poor sales as well as supply chain holdups. Now, Bed, Bath, & Beyond seeks to return to its approach of offering national brands. The company's stock is down nearly 35 percent over the past week as announcements of their struggles continue to circulate through the media. (ABC13)
