The NFL floods Houston’s The Village School to combat city’s flooding problem
The Houston Texans, with local students from the Village School, passed on the symbolic Super Bowl "golden shovel."
The Houston Texans, with local students from The Village School, the NFL, Houston Super Bowl Committee, Verizon Wireless and Trees for Houston passed the symbolic Super Bowl “golden shovel” on to the Minnesota Super Bowl Committee on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. The golden shovel is a symbol of the NFL Environmental Program, which aims to minimize the impact of Super Bowl activities on the local environment. The Texans partnered with Houston’s The Village School and Trees for Houston to support the school’s work with Massachusetts Institute of Technology to tackle Houston’s flooding problem. After the shovel was passed, students and program leaders got to work planting trees to commemorate urban forestry projects.
