🌱 Night Club Nirvana + Temporary Tattoos

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Houston.

(Patch Media)

Wake up, Space City! It's me, Chris, your humble servant of the Houston Daily — coming right back at you with the plug on what's happening. Today, we'll look at:

  • The hottest new night clubs.
  • The gubernatorial debate.
  • Made-to-fade tattoos.

But first, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 88 Low: 62.

Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. There are few businesses that age as quickly as night clubs, so here's a list of the newest hot spots for your late-night shenanigans. Paradise Palace in Eado opened this past summer in the space of former arcade bar EightyTwo. The club brings together images and architecture of ancient Greece and neon lights to present a dance floor that inspires imagination. Zenaku is a multi-level downtown club that's coming up on its one-year anniversary and is especially notable for featuring anime projections and varied music. Lastly, there's Babylon in Midtown which opened this past summer with a bang thanks to live exotic animals being displayed outside of the building on opening night. If you're looking for a night you probably won't remember, any of these venues will serve you well. (Houstonia Magazine)
  2. The Texas governor's debate saw Beto O'Rourke and Greg Abbott go toe to toe on topics including border safety, Uvalde, gun control, and Abbott's tenure as governor. There weren't any overwhelming victories put on display, but each contender made their differences clear. O'Rourke hammered Abbott for not coming down harder on the police on site at Uvalde, failure to enforce stricter gun control laws, and his border response of shipping migrants across the country. Meanwhile, Abbott pointed to Texas' status as No. 1 in Blue Ribbon schools, new jobs, and Tier One Research universities over his time as governor. The incumbent governor stated, "I'm running for re-election to keep Texas No. 1." (Houston Chronicle)
  3. Ephemeral Tattoo Studio is now offering tattoos to the Houston area that fade in anywhere from 9 to 15 months. The business recently opened on Westheimer and Dunlavy. The ink Ephemeral uses is made with particles that are designed to dissolve from exposure to the water in your body. They have opened as the fifth studio in the U.S. to offer "made-to-fade" tattoos. Artists say everything about the tattoo including the tattooing and healing processes remain the same: the only difference is the ink. If you've been considering getting a tattoo but can't quite decide if eternity is too long, Ephemeral offers a great way to finally cross the tattoo border. (KHOU.com)
  4. Bond set at $200,000 for drunk driver that killed 2-year-old boy in a hit-and-run in Southwest Houston. Rene Alfredo Alvarado Lopez, 22, hit the boy around 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday and was tracked by witnesses back to his apartment complex. Lopez is not a U.S. citizen and has been charged with multiple DUIs prior to this incident. Police determined he was intoxicated at the time he hit the boy. Lopez has lived in the Houston area for five years despite originally being from El Salvador. (ABC13)
  5. Houston's LGBQT+ magazine 'Outsmart' recently released its 25th annual Gayest & Greatest awards which highlight local businesses in a plethora of categories. Winners include Numbers Night Club and White Oak Music Hall tying for best live music venue, JR's Bar & Grill for best happy hour and best karaoke, and South Beach Houston for favorite dance club. Other notable categories include 'favorite place to show off your leather,' 'favorite place to watch male dancers,' and 'best drag show in town.'
