(Patch Media)

Wake up, Space City! It's me, Chris, your most excellent servant of the Houston Daily — coming right back at you with the plug on what's happening. Today, we'll dive into:

  • The Houston Hat Guy.
  • A handicap squabble.
  • Pink tex-mex.

But first, today's weather:

Showers and a heavier t-storm. High: 73 Low: 45.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. As Houstonians prepare for RodeoHouston at the beginning of March, the reputation of a man known as the "Houston Hat Guy" is breaking headlines. Lawrence Jagneaux works at Cavender's along the Northwest Freeway but has recently made a name for himself due to his passion for classic Texan head apparel. While some people might believe that hats don't agree with them, Jagneaux says, "That's because they haven't had the right hat." Lawrence takes pride in his work of personally customizing hats for each and every one of his customers. This includes taking head measurements, finding the customer's preferred style, and shaping the hat exactly to its new owner's specifications. "When I shape a hat or create a hat, I look at the person's face, their structure, how tall they are, how wide they are, then I design the hat to complement them," Jagneax said. "I always tell people they're the cake and the hat is the icing." (KHOU.com)
  2. A Houston resident of City Crossing Apartments is up in arms after his landlord hired contractors that failed to properly put in his wheelchair access ramp. Resident Jason Sims has lived at the apartment for four years and tells reporters that he's had trouble accessing his own home for the majority of that time. Sims said that he's thought about moving, but moving while you're handicap involves taking responsibility for installing all of the handicap accessories you might need in a new home. These include handles, bars, and, of course, a ramp to enter your own home. While Sims paid for the first ramp at his current apartment, he says, "I am now on ramp number five. I paid for the first one, and they've redone every one since, but it hasn't been done right." Currently, Sims says the ramp is too steep and that he has to pull himself up using accompanying rails in order to get inside of his home. Thanks to the involvement of local news, Sims was able to get into contact with the complex manager about a possible solution. (KTRK-TV)
  3. A food truck in Houston named Pink Box is adding a dash of color to their meals using pretty pink sauce. Pink Box primarily serves tex-mex dishes such as tacos, nachos, fajitas, and more. The truck is a family business that's run by a husband and wife duo as well as their children on occasion. They began the business as a side hustle, however, when both owners were laid off from their jobs during COVID, they decided to take Pink Box full time. Some of the food truck's best sellers include jerk chicken tacos, street corn, buffalo chicken quesadillas, and their Mexican cheesesteak. All of the mentioned dishes come with the food truck's signature pink sauce though the sauce itself takes different forms based on what best compliments the dish. Foodies interested in visiting Pink Box only need to keep an eye out for the mobile restaurant's cute, pink truck. (KHOU.com)
  4. A Houston teacher's aid is wanted for strangling a 5 year old after he disobeyed her instructions to not go to the bathroom. According to the child, aid Micah Deloach refused to let him use the restroom so he went on his own. Deloach found the boy in the restroom shortly after he left the classroom. Reportedly, when found he laughed in her face. This led to Deloach choking the young boy as well as leaving a fingernail laceration across his neck. An eyewitness who heard the boy scream from the bathroom reported what happened to authorities. The incident took place at Beatrice Mayes Institute in September. Police are still looking for Deloach, and anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. (KTRK-TV)
  5. A Houston driver was sentenced to 50 years in prison yesterday due to his involvement in a police chase that ultimately led to the deaths of two women. Police were attempting to pull over Brian Tatum, 47, when he took off speeding. He only made it about 2 miles while exceeding speeds of 100 mph in a 35 mph limit zone when he T-boned an uber and killed both of its passengers. Tatum accepted the 50 year prison sentence in lieu of leaving his legal punishment to the decision of jurors or a judge. Tatum had previously been convicted of several felonies and must serve at least 25 years in prison before he's eligible for parole. (KHOU.com)
