HOUSTON, TX — After weeks of grand slams, walk-offs and clutch pitching performances, the 2021 Major League Baseball season is down to just two teams as the World Series kicks off Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

The Houston Astros are back in the World Series for the third time in five seasons and seeking their second title, while the Atlanta Braves are making their first appearance since 1999, when Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz were on the mound.

Game 1 is 7 p.m. in Houston and will be televised on FOX.

The Astros are making their first appearance in the World Series since a sign-stealing scandal came to light after the 2019 season. An expose in The Athletic and an MLB investigation revealed the Astros used live camera feeds to steal signals and then relayed them to batters using a system of banging trash cans during their run to a World Series title in 2017.

The MLB fined Houston $5 million, and the Astros forfeited first- and second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts. Manager AJ Hinch and General Manager Jeff Luhnow were suspended for a year each and fired shortly after the league's punishments were announced.

After a 2020 season with no fans, Astros players have been the targets of fans' boos and heckling throughout the 2021 season.

“We just want to really show the world that we’re the best team out there," Astros shortstop Carlos Correa told the Associated Press. "In order for us to do that, we’ve got to get four more wins. I don’t think the outside noise motivates us at all.”
