Here are the top stories today in Houston:

  1. A new 16-story art piece called the Houston Ecosystem Restoration Mural was unveiled in downtown Houston last week. The piece was done by Argentinian artist Martín Ron and features a Houstonian's hand grasping a sapling. The art serves as a message and a reminder for locals to involve themselves in efforts to support local green growth. This new addition to the Houston skyline is planned to remain for years to come. It's also only the first painting in a five-part series of art works with similar intentions being put up across the United States. (Houston CityBook)
  2. Delicious, exotic food fare runs aplenty across the cultural melting pot of Houston, but the Bayou City serves up basic dishes like sandwiches to great success as well. Starting from the beginning, Nielsen's Delicatessen is the oldest deli in the city originally opening in 1952. Visitors to this Houston relic can find the restaurant's continued success in the unmatchable taste of their mayo. In case you've never treated yourself to a gratifying Vietnamese bánh mì sandwich, you can visit one of Roostars three Houston locations to amend your sandwich wrongs. Warning: bánh mì enjoyment may vary based on how much you like jalapenos. Lastly, Las Tortas Peronnas in Spring Branch serves up Mexican sandwiches that literally melt in your mouth. First timers can't go wrong ordering the Super Cubana. (Chron)
  3. Bitty & Beau's Coffee in Rice Village is more than your average coffee shop; it's a business dedicated to the mission of providing employment to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Named for the owners' two children with Down syndrome, Bitty & Beau's wants to help change how society views people with disabilities. Co-founder Amy Wright said, "80 percent of people with disabilities don't have jobs -- and we're out to change that. Not just by providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities, but by showing our guests what's possible." On top of selling refreshments, the Coffee shop also offers merchandise with embracing slogans including "Radically Inclusive" and "Not Broken". (CultureMap Houston)
  4. Police are at a loss for leads after a Missouri City man was shot and killed in the front seat of his own car while sitting in his parents' driveway. The victim's girlfriend was sitting in the passenger seat when an unknown suspect approached the vehicle and fired a single shot, striking and killing the victim. The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Sunday evening. Police are scrambling for leads from nearby neighbors and possible surveillance cameras, however, without a description of the suspect, they say that there's not much to go on. (KHOU.com)
  5. Houston's Miller Outdoor Theatre is a one-of-a-kind performance venue, offering quality, completely free cultural and educational programming to Houston for over a century now. Shows you can catch at this landmark include world music, Shakespeare plays, dance, classic films, and more. While the theater's actual seating accommodates up to 1,700 guests, the sloping lawn that visitors often decorate with lawn chairs and blankets can host an additional 4,500 patrons. Originally opening in 1923, Miller Outdoor Theater will be celebrating its centennial this year as it continues to delight and engage locals into the next century. (Chron)
