🌱 School Adjacent Shooting + Weekend Escapes

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Houston.

(Patch Media)

Hey, friends! I'm back with your new edition of the Houston Daily, fresh off the presses. Let's get this Friday started off right, with a quick dive into the most important things happening in town. In today's issue, you'll learn about these stories and more:

  • A shooting involving Houston teenagers
  • Spontaneous weekend getaways
  • A new lodge coming to the Galleria area

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and warmer. High: 57 Low: 37.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. A police shooting yesterday led to a school lockdown at Wisdom High School after one of the shooters involved hitched a ride to the school's auditorium. Two of the three individuals involved in the shooting ended up being students at the high school. Shots were exchanged between police and the three suspects near the corner of Westheimer and Hillcroft. Police managed to hit one 17 year old in the knee, but no other injuries were sustained from either side. Once the school realized one of the shooters had entered campus, Wisdom High immediately went into lockdown. Thankfully, no other complications arose, and the school was able to safely hand over the student suspect to police. (KHOU11)
  2. Houston has a nearly infinite number of things to do on the weekend, but sometimes it's nice to experience a change of scenery. There are a number of cities within close driving distance of Houston that offer just that. For a beach destination, Galveston offers the seawall, pleasure pier with carnival games and rides, and the Moody Gardens Museum. Meanwhile, Huntsville's small-town charm will renew your love of Texas outdoors with strange roadside displays, a chance at scuba diving, and the beautiful trees of the East Texas Pineywoods. In case you can't decide between land and sea, Beaumont is a perfect mix of both. The city's swampy environment is home to alligator encounters, paddling and hiking trails, and Big Thicket National Preserve where you can view all kinds of protected native wildlife. 3. The Cle' Group will open a new restaurant called 'Post Oak Lodge' at the former location of Yia Yia Mary's near the Galleria. As opposed to their nightclub environments Cle' and Spire, Post Oak Lodge will seek to provide a more casual, elevated dining experience. The restaurant will focus on serving some of the best American fare in town including sandwiches, burgers, and other bar food goodies. The Post Oak Lodge will seek to have an active lunch crowd much like the predecessor who inhabited the space before them. It will also be a great place to catch a game in the evenings and on weekends, though they're not going as far as calling themselves a sports bar. Post Oak Lodge partner Zack Truesdell said, "Kind of like how Moxie's is by default a sports bar, but it's not really a sports bar. That's the realm we'll be in." (CultureMap Houston)
  4. Two thieves who robbed a gas station in the 6400 block of Tierwester are being branded as clumsy after they dropped multiple cartons of cigarettes during their daring getaway. The two suspects wore hoodies with the hoods pulled up, but their faces were caught in clear view by the station's surveillance cameras. They threatened the clerk for money from the register by suggesting that they were armed by placing their hands in their hoodies. While one thief took the money from the clerk, the other gathered up more cartons of cigarettes than he was capable of holding. If you know any information about or otherwise recognize the individuals, please contact Crime Stoppers. (KTRK-TV)
  5. Airi Ramen has opened up its fourth Houston location off of FM 1960 and T.C. Jester. The Japanese ramen shop offers more than just this traditional cuisine though. Customers can also experience other Japanese foods including Yaki Udon, fried rice, Hawaiian poke, and wonton soup. Take some time to experience one of the newest ramen competitors on the Houston scene and see what they have to offer versus other ramen shops including Ramen Tatsuya, Jinya, Ninja Ramen, Tamashi, and more. The search for the ramen with the perfect umami (essence of deliciousness) never truly ends. (Community Impact Newspaper)
