Sen. John Cornyn Pulls Out Of Consideration For FBI Director
Cornyn: "... the country needs a well-credentialed, independent FBI director."

HOUSTON, TX — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tx) has removed his name for consideration to be the next FBI director.
Cornyn, who was among those names considered on the short list to replace former FBI Director James Comey, released a statement Tuesday removing his name from consideration.

“Now more than ever the country needs a well-credentialed, independent FBI director,” Cornyn said in his statement.
Corny added that he was committed to helping the Trump Administration find the right person to fill that role.

News broke on May 12 that Cornyn was being considered for the top law enforcement job by the Trump Administration.

Cornyn, who served as Texas’ Attorney General before being elected to the U.S. Senate, was one of 11 candidates being considered to replace Comey, who was fired May 9.
However, Cornyn isn’t the first to pull out of consideration.
According to a Politico report, South Carolina Sen.Trey Gowdy, considered by many to be a conservative firebrand, also removed his name from consideration.
So far the Trump Administration has interviewed eight candidates to replace Comey.
President Donald Trump said a decision could made as early as this week.
