Sheriff's Office Identifies Man Who Died During SWAT Standoff.

Matthew Vincent Cobb, 35, who escaped & shot a sheriff's deputy while being arrested on Jan. 31, died during a standoff with SWAT officers.

HOUSTON, TX — The Harris County Sheriff's Office has released a photo of a man who allegedly killed himself Wednesday in a stand-off with SWAT officers.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Patrol were dispatched to a disturbance call between a woman and her ex-husband, in the 2500 block of Kiplands Way Dr. on Jan. 31.

The ex-husband, identified as Matthew Vincent Cobb, 35, was at the home in in north Harris County when deputies arrived.

While on scene, Cobb was detained after charges of deadly conduct were accepted by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for threating his ex-wife earlier in the evening.

After being handcuffed, Cobb pulled a pistol fro his waistband and shot at deputies.

Deputy P. Mirrielees, a two year veteran was struck by gunfire.

A deputy on scene returned fire at Cobb.

Deputy Mirrielees was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital-Woodlands via ambulance.

At the time of transport Deputy Mirrielees was conscious and alert.

He has since been released from the hospital, and is recovering at home.

An unidentified man who was at the scene, and believed to be a roommate of the ex-wife, was shot several times.

He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Downtown via life flight in critical but stable condition.

Patrol deputies held the perimeter of the home until the Harris County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Hostage Negotiators arrived on scene.

Cobb remained inside the residence with a female roommate, and she was ultimately able to escape when members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team were clearing the first floor of the home.

Sheriff’s Office negotiators never made contact with Cobb during the standoff.

A robotic camera was placed in the home, and found Cobb's body in an upstairs bathroom.

SWAT personnel went in with EMS personnel who pronounced Cobb dead.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Science will determine cause of death on Cobb.
