Shootout Near Kashmere High School Injures Teen
A teen who authorities say was not a student was shot in a gunfight at a park across from the Houston high school and taken to a hospital.
HOUSTON, TX — A teen was shot in a gunfight at a park across from Kashmere High School at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in northeast Houston.
Both the victim and suspect are 16 or 17 years old, and the suspect is a former student at Kashmere, Houston Police Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu said.
The victim, who is not a student, suffered five gunshot wounds — three to the abdomen and one each to the arm and thigh — and was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, Houston police said. He is in critical but stable condition and undergoing surgery, authorities said. The suspect, who is a student at Kashmere, fled the scene in a red sedan.

Four of the victim's friends took him across the street to Kashmere and identified the suspect to authorities.

The victim and the suspect knew each other and had an apparent rivalry, Cantu said.
