Suspect Arrested, Charged In Fatal Crash At 5800 Bellaire Boulevard In Houston

The identity of the male victim, 39, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 5800 Bellaire Boulevard about 7:55 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 6).

The suspect, Carlos Lopez-Obispo (H/m, 57), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 177th State District Court. A booking photo of Lopez-Obispo is attached to this news release.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer C. Cisneros reported:

Lopez-Obispo was driving a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound at the above address when his truck left the roadway and drove up onto a sidewalk. The truck then struck cement and sign posts and then the victim, who was operating a scooter.

Paramedics transported the victim and Lopez-Obispo to an area hospital where the victim was pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined Lopez-Obispo was intoxicated. He was treated for minor injuries, released from the hospital and then taken to jail.
