Armed Passenger Held Pickup Driver Hostage In Houston: Police

An armed passenger was holding the driver of a pickup truck hostage Friday after a traffic stop. A SWAT team was deployed.

HOUSTON, TX — An armed passenger held the driver of a pickup truck hostage at gunpoint for more than two hours after a traffic stop Friday afternoon in southwest Houston, police said.

The standoff on Belle Park Drive ended when Houston SWAT and a negotiation team convinced the suspect to allow the driver to get out of the car. The suspect got out of the truck soon after and was taken into custody.

The victim also was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated charge of family violence. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant, according to authorities.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released, but they know each other, police said.

Police found weapons, including a rifle and pistol, and narcotics in the truck.
