Veterans Day 2017: Lots Of Weekend Offers And Deals For Veterans

HOUSTON, TX — If you’re looking for Veterans Day deals this weekend, you may not have to look too far with restaurants and other services pulling out the stops to honor those who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces.

Most of those deals come in the form of a free meal with a number of big named restaurant chains offering a free meal or entree to military veterans.

Participating restaurant chains include:

• Applebees
• BJ’s Brewhouse (free meal Friday and Saturday)
• Carrabba’s (free appetizer)
• Chili’s
• Chipotle
• Denny’s (free Grand Slam on Nov. 10)
• Golden Corral
• Hooters
• IHOP (free pancakes on Friday)
• Longhorn Steakhouse (free appetizer or dessert)
• McDonald's Restaurants
• Muscle Maker Grill
• Olive Garden
• Outback Steakhouse (free bloomin onion and beverage)
• Red Lobster (free appetizer)
• Red Robin
• Roka Akor (25 percent discount)
• TGI Friday’s (free lunch)
• Texas Roadhouse (free lunch)

Of course, hungry veterans are encouraged to have proof of military service, such as a military ID Card, orders, discharge papers or even a photograph of yourself in uniform.

It’s also a good idea to call ahead and make sure those restaurant locations are actually participating in the freebie, and be ready to answer a few questions.

There are also deals on events in the Houston area for veterans, too.

The Budweiser Brewery Tour Center will be offering deas through Nov. 19.

Those deals include:

• A 25 percent discount on all items in the gift shop for veterans, active military, first responders, police, firefighters and all those who protect us.
• Complimentary brewery tours for veterans, active military, first responders, police and firefighters and their families.
• Veterans and active military members will be presented with a custom-made commemorative Budweiser military coin.

The City of Houston is hosting its annual Veteran’s Day Salute on Nov. 11 at 8 a.m., as well as a Veteran’s Job Fair and Health Fair beginning at 8 am.

The ceremony begins at 10 am on the steps of City Hall with a 21-gun salute.

Remington College is offering free services to veterans at their locations at Greenspoint and in Webster,and Great Clips are offering free haircuts to military veterans, but call the location near you before you head out.

The Houston Humane Society is offering its Pets for Vets program that allows active, former and retired militay veterans to adopt a pet for free.

The Pets for Vets program runs from Nov. 6-13.

Finally, all state parks that typically require a fee to enter, will be free to the public on Sunday, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Parks will be hosting guided hikes, bird walks and other programs throughout the day. Camping and special activity fees will still apply.
