Here are the top stories today in Houston:
- Further chemical waste from the East Palestine derailment fire in Ohio will be disposed of in two sites located in Ohio instead of a disposal facility in Deer Park that already received over 1 million gallons in shipments of Ohio wastewater. The wastewater is contaminated with a substance known as vinyl chloride found in everyday plastics. This substance is produced by Houston-based companies Westlake and OxyVinyls. In total, chemical companies along the Gulf Coast make more than 20 billion pounds of the product annually. Houston-area lawmakers claim they had not been notified the wastewater was coming to the area. Vinyl chloride has been found in Houston's environments including our railyards, groundwater, and floodwaters post Hurricane Harvey. U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, (D-Houston), tweeted Saturday, "This process of dumping toxic waste in communities without prior notice to local cities and counties has to stop." (Houston Chronicle)
- Malcolm Isaiah Posey, 24, pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend in exchange for a 60-year prison sentence. Posey showed up to his ex's apartment, killer her boyfriend, and then dragged her by her hair into a car he stole from another apartment resident. Thankfully, police were able to track down Posey and his kidnapped ex only an hour after the crime was committed. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said, "Domestic violence takes all kinds of forms, and this was an attack that included a kidnapping and a fatal shooting. And now this man will spend decades, and hopefully the rest of his life, in prison." Posey will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence. (KHOU.com)
- Houston Masterchef winner Christine Ha opened her new restaurant The Blind Goat in Spring Branch Village. The restaurant's name was inspired by a condition Ha suffers that caused her to lose her sight paired with her astrological sign. One of the dishes you can enjoy at the location is a whole roasted turmeric fish prepared with yogurt, shrimp paste, and golangal. Additionally, the fish is served with its head and tail attached for good luck. Other dishes include crawfish and garlic noodles, coastal flavored cocktails, and banh khot, which are Vietnamese savory pancakes. Ha also plans to open a new sandwich shop, named Stuffed Belly, in the same shopping center later this year. She's currently looking for the perfect chef to lead the shop's kitchen. - A Houston man who led police on a daring 37-mile chase from Humble to Houston was sentenced to 37 years in prison. Milton Callahan, 47, was approached by police around 9:30 p.m. while sitting in a black GMC Yukon when he sped off. During the chase, Callahan fired three shots into the passenger side door of a HPD Dodge Charger. In addition, his girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat during the chase, claims Callahan fired shots at civilians and her as she pleaded with him to pull over. During the chase, a civilian car with a family inside was ran into a wall. Thankfully, the family escaped before the car caught fire. The chase ended when Callahan crashed at Fondren at Willowbend and tried to flee on foot. Police caught him shortly afterward. (KPRC Click2Houston)

Crawfish and cold beer will be available aplenty to all who show up. (CultureMap Houston)
