What's The Most Popular Baby Name In Texas These Days?

The list of the most popular baby names in Texas, and the U.S. for 2016 was recently and if the returns hold true, there were be a plethora of Noahs, Liams, Emmas and Mias entering kindergarten in Texas by 2021.

The most popular baby names for 2016 were released by the Social Security Administration on May 12, and it seems many Texas parents are opting for some of the more traditional names.

Noah, of course topped the list with 2,017 boys dubbed with the name in 2016, followed by Liam with 1,784 named, Sebastian with 1,668, which was followed closely by Daniel with 1,610, and Matthew with 1,603.

So, what was the top baby girl name in Texas in 2016? Emma was the top vote getter with 2,139, followed by Mia 2,005, Sophia with 1,955, and Olivia at 1,931.

Isabella rounded out the top five for baby girls with 1,792 in 2016.

The U.S. list of most popular baby names was released last week, with just one new entry in the top 10, Elijah.

Among Texas mothers in 2016, Elijah was No. 7 on the list, with 1,498 baby boys getting that name.

The SSA began compiling the list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The administration also notes how popular culture influences baby names. For 2016, the name Kehlani had the biggest jump in popularity and for boys, the name was Kylo.

The bump in popularity for Kehlani is likely to do with the popularity of the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Kehlani Parrish, according to the SSA.

The bump for Kylo on the other hand likely has to do with the character in the 2015 movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
