World Series 2017: Astros Take Series Lead With A Wild 13-12 Win

World Series heads back to Los Angeles, where Justin Verlander and Rich Hill will face off on Halloween in game six.

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros took a 3-2 series lead defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-12 in a wild 10 inning slugfest at Minute Maid Park Sunday night.

Game 5 of the series, one of the most exciting games in recent memory, was the second longest World Series game on record, lasting 5 hours and 17 minutes, only 24 minutes shorter than game 3 of the 2005 World Series matchup between the the Astros and the White Sox.

Most expected a pitching duel between the Astros Dallas Keuchel and the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw, but it was the Dodgers’ batting order that alerted fans early on they came to play when they took a 3-0 in the 1st inning.

The Dodgers would extend their lead to 4-0 in the 4th inning when Logan Forsythe scored on an RBI from Austin Barnes.

However in the bottom of the fourth, the Astros exploded with George Springer scoring on an RBI when Carlos Correa doubled to left.

Then with two runners on, Yuli Gurriel homered and evened the score 4-4.

The Dodgers took a three run lead in the 5th inning when Cody Bellinger homered, scoring Justin Turner and Corey Seager.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Astros evened the score again when Jose Altuve homered, scoring Springer and Alex Bregman.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Astros tied with a Springer home run, and then took the lead on a homerun by Correa and RBI’s by Altuve and Bregman.

The Astros would hold the lead until the 9th inning, when Austin Barnes scored when Chris Taylor single.

In the 10th inning, with two runners on first and second, Bregman nailed a single scoring Derek Fisher to take the 13-12 win.

Game five was only only a slugfest, but a game where the Dodgers and Astros both dipped often into their bullpen, especially after the 4th inning.

Game five of the series was also a record-setter, with the Astros becoming the first team in series history to have five different players to hit homeruns in a single World Series game, and the third team to hit five home runs in total.

One record that is still being rewritten for this series includes homerun totals, which currently stands at 22 between the league champs.

The series now heads to Los Angeles for a game six Halloween night matchup, with Justin Verlander taking the mound against the Dodgers Rich Hill.
