World Series 2017: Houston Evens Series With 7-6 Dramatic Extra Inning Finish

Historic: Astros win first World Series game in franchise history, first team to hit 3 extra inning homers in World Series.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Houston Astros’ bats came alive in the second game of the World Series, sending the game into extra innings and a 7-6 victory that evened the series at 1-1.

It was a game that undoubtedly could have only happened in Hollywood, and while it was close enough and brought enough drama, screenwriters had nothing to do with this display.

It was historic for the Astros, who won their first World Series game in franchise history against the storied Los Angeles Dodgers who were heavy favorites for oddsmakers.

It could have turned out either way, and early on it was looking like the oddsmakers were onto something, with the Astros bats and the bullpen looking somewhat anemic through seven innings, and the Dodgers nursing a 3-1 lead.

But things began to take a different turn in the 8th inning when Carlos Correa dinged a single into centerfield, bringing in Alex Bregman who scored on the RBI.

Watch: Dodgers Fans Still Optimistic After Game 2 Loss

There was still hope for the Dodgers until the 9th inning, when Marwin Gonzalez hit a solo homerun to center and evened the score at 3-3, followed by back-to-back homeruns in the 10th inning by Jose Altuve and Correa giving the Astros a 5-3 lead.

The Dodgers then evened the score with Yasiel Puig homering to left field, and Enrique Hernandez hitting a single to right field and scoring Logan Forsythe on an RBI.

In the 11th inning, Astros’ Centerfielder George Springer homered to right and scored Cameron Maybin upping the score 7-5.

The Dodgers’ Charlie Culberson would homer in the 11th to make the score 7-6, and that’s where the scoring stopped.

While it was history for the Astros who notched their first World Series win, it was also historic to see 8 homeruns recorded in a single World Series game.

The Dodgers will head to Houston and play the next three games at Minute Maid Park, where the Astros have been strong all season.

Lance McCullers will take the mound for the Astros in game three against the Dodgers’ Yu Darvish at 7 p.m. on Friday.
