World Series 2017: Houston, You Have A Championship

Astros win their first World Series crown, topping the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in game seven.

HOUSTON, TX — A 55-year drought ended in the city of Los Angeles ended Wednesday night as the Houston Astros won their first World Series crown, defeating the L.A. Dodgers 5-1.

It was a shot that Houston — a sports city that is often dismissed by mainstream sports pundits, and a city that bore the brunt of Hurricane Harvey two months earlier — desperately needed.

The scoring began early for the Astros, when lead off hitter George Springer popped a double to centerfield in the 1st inning.

Houston Celebrates As Astros Win World Series

By the end of the 2nd inning, the Astros would have a comfortable 5-0 lead, giving them all the runs they’d need to secure a world championship.

The rest of the game was a pitching duel that began with starters Lance McCullers and Yu Darvish taking the mound and ended with both teams pulling out the stops with their respective bullpens.

While the Dodgers bullpen was undoubtedly stronger, the Astros were better rested.

In the end, it was the Astros’ Charlie Morton, who pitched four solid innings, who recorded the game seven win.

Meanwhile Astros fans who’d filled the stands at Minute Maid park for watch party, celebrated and cheered in the streets outside the park.

Back in L.A., the championship trophy was handed to team owner Jim Crane, Springer would be named the series MVP and was awarded the Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player Award.

While the players are no looking forward to their World Series rings, one lucky lady got a ring of her own when Astros shortstop Carlos Correa too a knee and popped the question to his girlfriend Daniella Rodriguez, who also happens to be Miss Texas.

Of course, she said yes.

The World Series Champions will be back in Houston for a welcome home parade in Houston on Friday morning.
