UHCL : High School, Transfer Students Can Apply Free At Discover UHCL

Current high school juniors and seniors, as well as college students who are considering
transferring, are invited to University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Discover UHCL event Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bayou Building.    

Associate Director of Admissions and Campus Visits Tiffany King said the event will
give prospective students the opportunity to come and learn all about UH-Clear Lake. 

“Students can take a campus tour, led by a current UHCL student, learn about all the
resources available to students, and find out about the degree programs offered here
by talking to faculty chairs from all four academic colleges who will be on hand to
answer questions,” King said. 

She said trending degrees include the new Bachelor of Arts in Serious Games and Simulations. These skills have become critical in creating training tools now needed in many
work environments, especially since the pandemic. 

Faculty chairs will be ready to discuss the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Care and Education, the Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, the Bachelor of Science in Addictions Counseling, the Pre-Engineering program, and other degree options. 

“The best part is, if a student comes to Discover UHCL and applies, the $45 application
fee will be waived,” she said. “For students applying to multiple colleges, those
fees can get very expensive. This is a great way to find out if you can come to UHCL
without having to pay.”

She added that students can tour Hunter Residence Hall, which will have an Open House from 12-2 p.m., to speak to staff and learn more about
life on campus. 

King said part of the university’s mission and vision is focused on experiential learning
opportunities. “Those are experiences that take students out of the classroom, and
we are offering three breakout sessions during the event to give students more information
about that,” she said. “We’d like students to know about the additional services and
opportunities, including Career Services, the Education Abroad program, and Student Involvement and Leadership.”

And for students on the autism spectrum, King said joining the Connecting to College session could provide a wealth of useful information. “Unlike most other universities
in Texas, we have many available resources for students on the autism spectrum here
at UHCL, so it’s important for those students to know about it,” she said.
