Atascocita CureFest Founder Succumbs to Cancer

Phil Baumann, who owned a business in the area for more than 30 years, died of brain cancer on June 11.

ATASCOCITA, TX — A local man whose personal battle with incurable brain cancer led him to try and help others who suffer from the disease, died June 11.

Baumann, 53, who was the owner of baumann Paint and Body in Humble, was just 47 when he was suddenly stricken with excruciating headaches and diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme.

Phil had several surgeries to remove the tumor, but the cancer returned, and according to the CureFest webpage, the family opted to try clinical trials to help eradicate the cancer.

The year he was diagnosed, Baumann and his wife, Misty started CureFest, to raise funds for brain cancer research for MD Anderson Hospital, the Houston Chronicle reported.

In September, the Baumann’s and CureFest presented a check for $130,000 to MD Anderson.

Baumann is survived by his wife, Misty and their son Colby, as well as many other family members and loved ones dear to him in the Humble and Atascocita communities.
