Homeowner Kills 14-Year Old Girl During Alleged Home Invasion [UPDATE]

Police described the relationship between the homeowner and the 14-year old girl as complicated, said "they knew each other."

(Updated) ATASCOCITA, TX — A 14-year old girl was shot to death early Thursday after she allegedly broke into a home in Atascocita, officials said.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office were called out shortly after 5 a.m. to the 19900 block of River Brook Drive in Atascocita.

The shooting was initially reported as a home as a home invasion, according to a KTRK report.

The homeowner, who has not been identified, told police he heard a noise and called 911, but when deputies arrived they found the girl, identified as Layla Ramos, dead inside the home, according to a KPRC report.

Officials are tring to determine if Ramos was trying to force her way in when she was killed, as well as the relationship between the girl and the 43-year old homeowner.

A family member of Ramos told KPRC that she'd dropped off Ramos not far from the home and that the 43-year old man had picked her up
