Controversial Yearbook Comments Cause Uproar At Humble ISD’s Atascocita High School
Some comments referenced drugs, alcohol and cheating: Report

HUMBLE, TX — Comments printed in the 2017 Atascocita High School yearbook raised concerns among parents and some students after many of the quotes referenced issues of drugs, sex and other supposed vices.
The student quotes were submitted by the students to the yearbook staff for publication, and were allegedly submitted to teachers and school advisers in November to be properly vetted, according to class president and yearbook editor Kyle Armour, who spoke with KTRK. Because the comments had already been seen, Armour said he thought everything was fine.

“I was surprised. I was thinking, of course, that they’d already seen the book,” Armour said. “They had access to it. They had access to pre-publishing before we turned anything in, and I guess they just put full trust in the students.”
However, Humble ISD officials said they were shocked at some of the comments in the yearbook, and according to KTRK, teachers were scratching out some of the offensive comments.

But, it was already too late.
Humble ISD has released this statement:
The Atascocita High School yearbook failed to meet the editing standards expected by Humble ISD. The yearbooks should have been more thoroughly vetted prior to publication. The issue has been addressed with staff. It will not happen again.
