Houston Man Charged With Murder In New Caney Hit-And-Run

Raul Najera is accused of running over and killing Ray Jasso as he stood outside his home with his children on Sunday night.

NEW CANEY, TX — A 25-year old Houston man is in the Montgomery County Jail, charged with the hit-and-run death of a 29-year old man on July 2.

Raul Najera was arrested at his home in north Houston on July 5, and is charged with murder in the death of Ray Jasso. (Want to get daily updates about traffic news and other events going on in your area? Sign up for the free Houston Patch morning newsletter.)

According to investigators, Najera and several others tried to crash a party that was being given for a 16-year old girl in the 15000 block of Emerald Court, KPRC reported.

A fight broke out as a result, and people began throwing rocks at Najera’s Chevy Suburban.

Jasso was outside shooting fireworks with his children, when Najera hit another vehicle, drove through a fence and ran over Jasso and three others who were outside, KTRK reported.

Jasso and another victim were taken to Conroe Regional Hospital, where Jasso later died.

Najera is in the Montgomery County Jail, and his bond is set at $500,000.
