Houston Police Investigate Fatal Shooting Involving Montgomery County Constable

Montgomery County deputy constable's claim the suspect tried to pull a gun from his backpack and was shot several times

KINGWOOD, TX — A Montgomery County deputy constable ishot and killed a man in Kingwood Monday afternoon, after the man reportedly went for a gun.

The shooting happened at about 1:40 p.m. at a gas station in the 1100 block of Kingwood Drive near Chestnut Ridge Road, after a short pursuit and an attempted carjacking, according to various media reports.

The incident began about 10 minutes earlier when the deputy stopped the motorcycle at Kingwood Drive and Loop 494 when the license plate came back invalid, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The pursuit began and the deputy lost sight of the motorcycle, and was picked up by another deputy constable.

Deputies said the driver of the motorcycle had an accident, and ran to a nearby gas station, where he tried to carjack someone, and according to a KTRK report, the deputy caught up with the man and tried to subdue him.

The deputy used his taser on the man, but the taser didn’t have an effect.

The man then went for his backpack, and pulled out a gun and was shot several times.

He died at the scene.

The identity of the man has not been released.

The Houston Police Department is investigating.
