Hurricane Harvey Takes Porter Woman's Life

Lisa Jones, 60, was killed Monday when an oak tree fell on her mobile home while she slept.

PORTER, TX — A 60-year old woman was killed Monday when an oak tree smashed through her mobile home, bringing Hurricane Harvey's death toll to eight. The accident happened at about 11:35 a.m. in the 17400 block of Louis Lane.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Constable’s Office said Lisa Jones was asleep in her home when the tree toppled onto the Jones home.

Authorities believed it was loosened from days of heavy rain that has bombarded the Houston area, causing the tree to loose traction in the soil and fall.

For days, Hurricane Harvey has pounded the Texas Gulf Coast, flooding homes and overwhelming creeks and bayous, and raising area waterways to far above flood stage.

The San Jacinto River and Lake Houston in northeast Harris County — a normally picturesque setting and a favorite spot of anglers and waterskiers — has taken in more than 25 inches of rain since Harvey made landfall late Friday night.

More rain is expected Tuesday.
