Hurricane Harvey: Shelter Opens At Lone Star College-Kingwood
Houston City Councilman Dave Martin helps secure the shelter and urges calm and patience as rain and flooding continue.

KINGWOOD, TX — Houston City Councilman Dave Martin said Monday that he has secured the use of the Lone Star College-Kingwood gymnasium as an emergency shelter. The shelter, which is located at 20000 Kingwood Drive, is open to residents in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita, as well as other residents in the area who have experienced flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The remnants of Hurricane Harvey, formerly a Category 4 hurricane, are moving back onto the Texas Coast and will make landfall in areas east of the Houston area. There have been no evacuation orders issued for the Kingwood and Humble areas, but as the water rises on the San Jacinto River, things could change.
Martin said in a press release that those who require a rescue should call the Houston Police Department Citizen Line In Kingwood at (832) 395-1820.
Since boats are not equipped with lights, nighttime water rescues are not happening and will instead begin at daybreak, Martin said.
Meanwhile, the shelters are not equipped with food or snacks, so donations will be needed.
Other needs include donations of such items as:
- Socks
- Towels
- Water
- Clean clothes
- Underwear
- Phone chargers
- Clorox wipes
- Diapers and baby wipes
- Infant and baby formula
- Baby food
- Personal and feminine hygiene items
Martin said the Clearwood Middle School would be opening at 9 a.m. as a transport location, and storm and flood victims will guided to the LSC-Kingwood Gymnasium.
