At that time, students were still on summer break and were just days from starting their school year when the Hurricane Harvey came to town.

When it was all over, homes and businessses were lost, and it also appeared that Kingwood High School had been lost, too.

Two weeks later, Kingwood High School students and staff began a split routine with Summer Creek High School, while the damages to their campus was being repaired.

The district announced in September that the school would be closed throughout the 2017-2018 school year, but that was not the case.

During the repair process, the schools received donations of equipment from memebers of the Houston Texans, the Daughters of the American Revolution, singer Barry Manilow, the Tavola Community and the Emirl Lagasse and Ingram Lee Foundations.

On Saturday, Kingwood High School will host a community event fro 4-7 p.m.
