HOUSTON, TX — A Harris County deputy constable wounded in a gun battle earlier this week got a special visitor Thursday when Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick stopped in to visit.
Patrick visited for a short time with Deputy Christopher Gaines, and his wife and daughter who were spending time with him as he recovers at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Gaines was shot several times during a gun battle early Tuesday with a man who was reportedly suicidal.

Deputies shot the suspect, and he is at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the room next to Gaines.
The incident happened at about 3 a.m. when deputies were called to a home in the 12400 block of Saratoga Woods Lane in the Eagle Springs subdivision for a disturbance.

He was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the shotgun pellets, and is in stable condition.
But Gaines seems to be recovering nicely, and managed to take a few steps with the aid of a walker, outside his hospital room.
However, Constable Mark Herman said Gaines still has a long recovery.
