According to a press release from the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, a man was in the parking lot of the Palace Inn holding a shoe, and asked someone “if they wanted to see something cool.”
Witnesses said the man lit a fuse on the shoe and set it down in the parking lot.
The shoe exploded, sending debris flying, which hit several adults and at least one child.
No one was seriously injured by the flying debris, though one person who was near the explosion complained of numbness.
Investigators believe the device was a concussive pyrotechnic device, such as a firecracker, and not a pipe bomb.
Witnesses said the man got into a blue 2004 Lexus, Texas license plate number GH42LC.
The incident is under investigation.
