Road Trip: Atascocita Couple Sells Everything To Hit The Open Road

Young couple plan to be on the road through 2017 to explore national parks.

ATASCOCITA, TX -- Victorina Piccio and her husband, Irwin Casiano are counting down the days to the start of an adventure that will most assuredly change their lives.

At the start of February, Piccio and Casiano embark on an excursion that will span more than a year and take them to every national park in the United States.

But none of it would have even come to mind if Piccio, an oil and gas professional, wasn’t laid off in February 2016.

She could have bounced right back to the old grind, and even received an offer of employment the the next day, but when she went to interview for the job, she realized the passion that had driven her in her professional life had shifted to something deeper and more meaningful.

She wanted to redirect her energies into the passion of traveling, and of seeing new things and having those new experiences.

She discussed her thoughts with her her husband, and embarked first on a travel blog called SquirmyFeet Explores, but she and her husband wanted to do more that write about it.

They wanted to explore, and live the experience.

So like married couples often do, they talked about it and decided it was time to throw caution to the wind and hit the open road.

They downsized from a home to a travel trailer that will be their home as they travel, along the eastern seaboard to Florida and north to Alaska.

While the first leg of the journey will take them to the U.S. Virgin Islands, they will spend a lot more of their time on U.S. highways to national parks in the contiguous United States.

The sense of adventure is undoubtedly a driving force with Piccio and Casiano, but another part of this longing is simply time.

"Life is short, you never know what tomorrow may bring,” Casiano told the Houston Chronicle.

The couple, who are in their early 40s, simply want to embark on the experience while they are still young enough, and share their adventures on their blog.

“We want to inspire others to explore, not be afraid and follow their dreams,” Piccio said.
