Texas State Student Indicted In Atascocita Man's Death
Matthew Ellis died in November 2017 after consuming large amounts of alcohol given to him at a frat party

SAN MARCOS, TX — A 20-year old man has been indicted by a Hays County grand jury for his role in the death of a Texas State University student from Atascocita.
Austin Rice, a Texas State University student, as indicted April 11 for providing alcohol to 20-year old Matthew Ellis in November 2017,and faces a year in jail and a $4,000 if he is convicted.
Ellis was found Nov. 13, 2017 at an off-campus apartment unresponsive, after attending a Phi Kappa Psi fraternity event the previous night, KTRK reported.

An autopsy revealed Ellis’s blood alcohol level as 0.38, more than four times the legal limit.
Texas State University suspended Greek-related activities connected to fraternities and sororities, not long after Ellis’ death.
