📰 News we're reading

1. Dallas County offering free tuberculosis testing after the latest exposure at an Irving school (keranews.org) — Dallas County is offering free tuberculosis testing at Irving's MacArthur High School starting Aug. 24 for returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors after a past exposure. Health officials stress the overall public risk is low but want to catch any latent cases early. Irving families with students at MacArthur should review the recommendations and consider getting tested.

2. Plano offers Texas' best internet value at $0.33 per Mbps (cw33.com) — Irving residents are getting some of the best broadband value in the country, paying about $0.34 per megabit per second according to a new study. The report ranks Plano first nationally, but shows Irving close behind and ahead of several other major Texas cities on internet affordability.

3. These are the 10 best high schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to U.S. News (wfaa.com) — An Irving campus, Uplift Education–North Hills Prep High School, made U.S. News' top 10 list of Dallas-Fort Worth public high schools, ranking 157th nationally with a 100% graduation rate. The story breaks down how several DFW schools performed and explains the data-driven criteria behind the rankings. Irving families can use this to gauge local options and regional competition.

4. Plano was named one of the happiest U.S. cities. What do residents think? (dallasnews.com) — Irving shows up in a new WalletHub ranking of the happiest U.S. cities, landing 70th while nearby Plano ranks 16th and draws most of the story's attention. Residents and officials there credit safety, amenities, and quality of life, while also voicing concerns about future traffic and growth. The piece offers regional context that helps Irving readers compare their own community's feel and reputation.
