🌱 Arlington Body Cam Footage + Music In Deaf Education

The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing in the area today.

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Irving Metro Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and humid. High: 88 Low: 68.

Here are the top stories today in Irving:

  1. Arlington Police released body camera footage of the fatal shooting that resulted in the firing of an officer earlier this week. The police chief explained the decision to the press on Friday, saying the officer had multiple options besides firing at the suspect. The officer involved has been identified as Robert Phillips. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. Discover how deaf students are getting a chance to experience music in a new way over at The Insider. Claire Garcia reports on a specially-constructed stage equipped with a 140-watt subwoofer that turns tunes into sound vibrations the kids can feel at Britain Elementary School. The educator behind the project says it has inspired her to take her career in a new direction.
  3. Lace-up your hiking boots! A new trail in the area officially opened in the Oak Cliff area. The Honey Springs-Cedar Crest Trail is one of the area's largest shared-use projects to date. Amble the 5-mile path to get a tour of South Dallas neighborhoods and views of the city skyline. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  4. Check out which North Texas companies made Newsweek's list of America's 100 Most Loved Workplaces. (dallasinnovates.com)
  5. Peruse some of the area's hottest headlines at CultureMap Dallas. Highlights include which DFW locales are named among the country's 100 most livable small and midsize cities and where to try Croatian-style chicken.
