Here are the top stories today in Irving:

  1. On Tuesday night, a two-alarm fire broke out in the 12-story Sterling Hotel on Regal Row. Witnesses say flames and smoke were visible from the seventh floor. Firefighters had the situation under control within an hour. No injuries were reported. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. Get the latest pandemic news from the DFW area at WFAA.com. Locally, Parkland Hospital has opened a third ward for coronavirus patients as medical staff struggles with 170 active COVID-positive patients at the facility. As of December 31, Dallas County reported 2,614 new cases of COVID.
  3. Arlington City Council voted down a gas well permit near a daycare facility on Tuesday. Many people expected Total Energies, a $320 billion oil and gas company, to get its project approved, but locals prevailed. "I am very grateful and I'm very surprised," remarked the owner of the daycare facility, Wanda Vincent. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
