Get on up, Irving! Let's get you started this Saturday with everything you need to know going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Breezy in the morning. High: 46 Low: 31.

Here are the top five stories today in Irving:

  1. The owner of a West African banded cobra was arrested on Friday morning after the snake escaped its unlocked enclosure. The cobra, categorized as "extremely dangerous" by authorities, has not been located despite efforts to search the Grand Prairie neighborhood where it got loose on Tuesday. Owner Lawrence Matl, 24, was taken into custody for violating the "Release from Captivity" code, a Class A misdemeanor. (FOX 4 Dallas)
  2. Here's an update on the teen who was critically injured in the MacArthur Boulevard shooting on Thursday: The 19-year-old victim was found in the driver's seat of a vehicle following a call to emergency services around 10:15 AM. Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting or names of possible suspects. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. A daycare center that served Euless refugee families is back after being closed for a year. The Mid-Cities Child Development Center was forced to close after a storm tore through its roof February 2021, causing portions of the building to collapse and flood. The re-opening restores an important community hub to local Arabic-speaking families. (WFAA.com)
