🌱Duncanville Gas Station Robbed 13 Times + Cashierless 7-Eleven

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Irving.

Hello there! It's the beginning of the week and my name is Merlin Douglass and I'm here with the news you need to start your day off right.

First the weather:

Lovely first day of Spring. High 80 Low: 50

Here are the top five stories today in Irving:

  1. An Irving man has been indicted for killing his mother. Police were asked to make a welfare check on 81-year-old Laverne Coggins in February. When they got there they got no response and had to break into the home. They found her body in the garage and 52-year-old Christopher Coggins hiding in the attic. (Newsbreak)
  2. Gas station owner, Mandeep Singh, reports he lost $23,000 worth of gas from his Valero station in Duncanville. Thieves got away with 6,000 gallons in this latest of a string of robberies of North Texas pumps. The thieves were caught on video. Singh says he has been robbed 13 times in the past few months. (NBC)
  3. You think things are rough at your job. They probably aren't as tough as the conditions that Bryce Redo has to put up with. Redo is a bullfighter and when the bulls were being moved from one area to another one of the bulls took him to task by slamming him twice into the NRG stadium wall. (KNUE ) Another bullfighter was able to distract the bull for enough time for Redo to make his escape.
  4. The city of Irving announced a $2 million investment to Southwest Park, 2800 West Shady Grove Road. City officials spoke with residents in February to get their take on what improvements might be needed. Between the sports fields, playgrounds and picnic tables, the city hopes there will be something for everyone. (Twitter)
  5. The world's first cashierless 7-Eleven will open in Irving after internal testing concludes. The store will be stocked with all the things you go to 7-Eleven for — drinks, snacks, groceries and non-food items. At the moment only 7-Eleven employees will be able to make purchases and they will have to download an app and check in before they can shop. The company says they believe that ultimately the process will be faster and easier for shoppers and provide a seamless shopping experience. (CBS)
