Irving Independent School District: District To Launch Night School Academy

Students who attend the Night OWL Academy will be able to earn a full credit in nine weeks and a half credit in 4-and-a-half weeks.

Students in Irving ISD will have the opportunity to earn their high school diploma in the evening, thanks to the district’s newest school, the Irving ISD Night OWL Academy. OWL, which stands for “Opportunities Without Limits,” provides more flexibility to meet the needs of the district’s student population.

The Night OWL Academy gives students who are in danger of dropping out or have dropped out of school the opportunity to earn their high school diploma in the evening. Additionally, the academy will help meet the needs of the district’s students who have work responsibilities and need a more flexible school-day schedule.

Students who attend the Night OWL Academy will be able to earn a full credit in nine weeks and a half credit in 4-and-a-half weeks. The academy will be housed at the Barbara Cardwell Career Preparatory Center and will be open from 5 to 8:15 PM Monday through Thursday. It will be staffed by five full-time, certified high school teachers who will provide face-to-face instruction for students. Classes will include English, Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, U.S. History, Art and more.

“Removing barriers is what we are about in Irving ISD,” says Superintendent Magda Hernandez.

“We are focused on providing our students with access to opportunities that they may have not had otherwise, and we are committed to ensuring all of our students are successful.”
