Catch up on everything you need to know about in town today with the Irving Daily.
Hey, people of Irving! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Irving Daily.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and nice. High: 80 Low: 64.
Here are the top stories in Irving today:
- Mark your calendars— it's flu shot time! Increase protection for yourself and others from yucky influenza by getting your flu vaccine this Thursday. Parkland Hospital is hosting the event at the Irving Health Center (1800 N. Britain Road) from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. No appointments are necessary, and the shots are available to adults and children over 6 months. (Irving Weekly)
- And here's another item you can add to your calendar: Saturday, October 23 is National Drug Take Back Day. Take your unused or expired prescriptions to the parking lot at the Irving Police Department stations: 305 N. O'Connor Road and 6800 N. MacArthur Boulevard from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. If you can't make it at that time, Irving residents are invited to use the 24/7 medical disposal receptacle at the O'Connor Road building. (Irving Weekly)
- Take a look at what Irving ISD is doing to help employees' mental health in an article by Michael Lozano at Spectrum News 1. Certified counselor Jose Villasenor took charge of the district's Employee Wellness Services in 2019 when it became clear there was a need for mental health services. The pandemic has only increased that need, and EWS has grown in response. Tap the link to learn more about the program.
- Neighbors are saying "No" to a proposed West Dallas concrete batch plant. Check out their reasons at the Dallas Observer.
- Current and former Southwest Airlines workers are protesting COVID-19 vaccination mandates over at the airline's Love Field HQ. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
