NWS: Current Conditions, Forecast Through Feb. 18

The National Weather Service's Fort Worth office reports dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills will continue through Tuesday morning, Feb. 16. Another winter storm is forecast to arrive Tuesday afternoon, bringing more snow and ice to the region.

  • Monday, Feb. 15: Bitterly cold temperatures expected. Temperatures are expected to fall into the teens, with wind chills in the -15 to -20 degrees range.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 16 to Thursday, Feb. 18: Another winter storm will arrive Tuesday afternoon and is expected to last through Thursday morning.
    • Significant sleet and/or snowfall accumulation expected in North Texas. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snowfall is expected.
    • The heaviest precipitation is expected to fall Tuesday night and Wednesday.
    • Bitter cold will end, but temperatures will remain below freezing with no melting anticipated until Saturday, Feb. 20.

Impacts to roads will last for several days until temperatures rise above freezing. Plumbing, both outdoor and indoor, are at high risk for damage. In addition, the extreme cold may cause high energy demands that potentially can cause outages.

Stay Safe

  • With record low temperatures and increased demand for electricity and natural gas, residents are experiencing extended outages. Contact Oncor (below) to report an electricity outage.
  • Pipes are likely to freeze. Drip interior faucets, especially those adjacent to exterior walls, and open cabinet doors to ensure plumbing gets additional warm air.
  • Residents are urged to use extreme safety precautions with candles, space heaters and other alternative heat sources to reduce fire risk.
