Bitter cold will remain through Friday, Feb. 19. Friday will be the first chance North Texas will reach temperatures above freezing. Any melting experienced Friday will refreeze overnight, potentially causing slick surfaces Saturday morning.

Saturday, Feb. 20, the region's temperatures will stabilize to above freezing, allowing for a sustained thaw. However, as temperatures increase, the pipes that have been frozen may start bursting, leading to increased water issues.

Stay Safe

With record low temperatures and increased demand for electricity and natural gas, residents are experiencing extended outages. Contact Oncor (below) to report an electricity outage.

Pipes are likely to freeze. Drip interior faucets, especially those adjacent to exterior walls, and open cabinet doors to ensure plumbing gets additional warm air.

Residents are urged to use extreme safety precautions with candles, space heaters and other alternative heat sources to reduce fire risk.
