🌱Irving Police Chief Retires + Scramble For Rental Relief Money

Here are the top stories in Irving today:

  1. The Irving Police force is losing one of its most senior members in January. Chief of Police Jeff Spivey announced his intent to retire earlier this week after 35 years of service. The position will be filled temporarily by Assistant Chief Darren Steele until city officials can complete the process of hiring a new chief. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
  2. The Oak Cliff Lions are honoring a Dallas philanthropist with the Bill Melton Humanitarian Award. Lyda Hill will officially be the 43rd recipient of the award on December 8. Hill was the owner of the area's largest travel agency prior to becoming active in the charity scene. Learn more about her generosity at Focusdailynews.
  3. Bowie Middle School counselors are getting some well-deserved accolades. The three-person counseling team received the Lone Star Award Bronze Winner by the Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA) earlier this week. The honor is awarded to "exemplary counseling programs that focus on data, are driven by goal completion and are aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model," according to Irving Weekly.   • City of Irving, Texas - City Hall offers the results of a recent city tree survey, which identified 30 trees near SH 183 and O'Connor Road that are damaged from the winter storm or not maturing into strong trees.
